Derek Spencer
Director and Interdisciplinary Artist
Derek Spencer
Me
I am a director and interdisciplinary artist working between theater, film, installation, and contemporary performance. My works amalgamate spectacular moments of contrapuntal chaos alongside intimate, interactive encounters in pursuit of fleeting and contingent truths. Common themes in my work include cyclical obsessions, untethered social dynamics, the futility of the existential search, incommunicability, anxious nostalgia, and the disorienting porousness of identity. My performance work is typically devised with the ensemble, staged in unusual venues, and formatted with immersive and interactive elements.
I am the founder and artistic director of Ceaseless Fun, an LA-based immersive performance company. I also served on the board of directors for the League of Experiential and Immersive Artists and led a monthly physical theater/ensemble devising jam: Soft Focus.
